What's cooking on Sourcehut? December 2019
There'll be a hut and a tractor from the Spring.
I suggested anarcha. He didn't buy it. I also said it could be sedlák, which in once sense means 'peasant'.
@krozruch @heluecht oh yes its gonna be a fucking nightmare of a war if twitter gets involved with the protocol decision making process, which they inevitably will. and if they join then google and facebook will probably send their goons over too so they can have their say. This is why we need to get to work NOW
Hey netizens, please, *please* stop doing unpaid marketing work for YouTube by embedding their videos on your websites. I understand continuing to upload videos there to reach the large audience that already use it, but that doesn't mean you have to link to them. If you also upload your videos on a #PeerTube instance, or some other more independent video host, and embed those on your sites, you can help to grow the audience for ethical video hosting networks.
So the Washington Examiner ran a "Bernie sanders is antisemitic" piece as a test because the center and the right are going to lean into that with the idea that it beat Corbyn, so it'll work here. That Sanders is Jewish is irrelevant because none of these people have any sort of mooring to things like "principles" or "political philosophy." All of this is just amoral tactics to them.
I would love a broadly ecological, fare trade, open hardware laptop with a spare, hackably comprehensible OS with little more than the speed of a BBC Master and an e-paper display. Clicky keyboard. Proper writing machine, robust, secure, no fucking about; a browser that displays write freely and little in the way of java script buggering about.
Review of The Twittering Machine by Richard Seymour in the Guardian via this piece entitled No False Consolations on Novaro Media https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/aug/08/the-twittering-machine-richard-seymour-review-social-media-dystopia (this on elfeed though I don't where I picked up on the publication). https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/aug/08/the-twittering-machine-richard-seymour-review-social-media-dystopia
Self-care today: 1. a wander with a pipe of standard tobacco 2. chatting to random folk in shops about everything and nothing 3. Tao Te Ching 4. day-long sourdough bread process 4. lunch, a coffee, and a wander with OH 5. archery 6. Not reading the news aside from for the results first thing (I slept on it last night)
My revolution is entirely boring.
Minimize my participation in systems that hurt
Maximize participation in systems I support
Save resources & money
Gather and practice skills
Buy as local as possible *when possible
Volunteer for community events, political candidates that help humans,
Mutual support of aligned people
Don't own more than I need
Don't desire what is inaccessible to most
Stay realistic by focusing on money and actions instead of words
So boring I can do this daily
ukpol, austerity, automation of welfare programmes
the department for work and pensions is introducing algorithmic decision-making (specifically AI) into social services. it's happening with little to no oversight.
how are there still large organizations who believe that outsourcing critical decisions to computers is a good idea? have they not been reading the news for the last several years?
Scottish National Party leader says Boris Johnson has no mandate to take Scotland out of the EU and demands independence vote. 👏
Death mention, UK POL
ppl are not going to survive the next few yrs precisely bc of TOry policy.
UK needs to amp up its sense of community bc idk what else will save it.
also, lots of Blk brits I know, particularly west indians are ready to pack their shit and go...an exodus
ukpol, momentum & corbyn
@LuigiEsq so it probably should seem like no surprise that election campaigning shouldn't be the end-all be-all of your praxis, but this is very fucking surprising to momentum.
I have been part of several projects that in good faith have tried to involve them with other grassroots campaigns and EVERY SINGLE TIME they have attempted to coopt it with electioneering. It dosnae matter if an election is even happening or not, they will convince you it's their way or the highway, and every time they make these bottom-up movements implode.
If y'all want Bernie to win, you need to actually provide an alternative for people in the here and now. Learn from the Black Panthers, form Mutual Aid groups, organise your communities and take care of them and most importantly LEAVE BERNIE OUT OF IT. Only bring up the election *after* you actually do something for your communities, otherwise you're just another opportunist, and voters see through that as they did Corbyn.
